County schedules H1N1 vaccination clinic for Saturday
Kenosha County will have its third H1N1 vaccination clinic Saturday.
The Flu Mist and injectable vaccines will be provided free of charge on a first-come first-served basis from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Job Center building, 8600 Sheridan Road.
As with the previous clinics, the Division of Health is encouraging those who fall within the target groups to receive the vaccine at this time.
The target groups:
— Pregnant women.
— Those who live with or provide care for infants 6 months and younger.
— Health care and emergency services personnel who have direct contact with patients or infectious material.
— Children ages 6 months to 4 years and those ages 5 to 64 who have medical conditions that put them at a higher risk for flu-related complications.
Children younger than 10 who received their first dose of the vaccine four weeks ago will be able to receive their second dose at the Saturday clinic. They should bring their influenza vaccination record card with the date of their first H1N1 vaccine.
Future clinics will be scheduled based on availability of the vaccine.
The county was forced to postpone a series clinics last month after the Division of Health’s supply of the vaccine was wiped out in the first two clinics at the County Center in Bristol and Tremper High School. More than 2,300 doses were administered in those locations.
One Kenosha County death has been linked to H1N1, commonly called the swine flu. Symptoms of the virus include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and, for some, diarrhea and vomiting.
Those who attend Saturday’s clinic should expect long lines and dress for winter weather conditions, the Division of Health warned Tuesday. Those who have a fever will not be allowed to enter the building.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a completed H1N1 consent form to expedite the clinic process. The form can be downloaded under the link “Vaccine & Clinics” at www.co.kenosha.wi.us/dhs/Divisions/Health/.
