A gas main leak caused a brief evacuation of about 21 homes in the Allendale neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

A construction crew taking out a sidewalk on the 7100 block of 7th Avenue struck a 2-inch natural gas line at about 2:15 p.m.

The Kenosha Fire Department asked residents of 21 houses near the leak to evacuate.

We Energies workers were able to stop the leak within 20 minutes of arriving and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
