PLEASANT PRAIRIE — United Hospital System received another green light Monday in its plan to construct an addition to St. Catherine’s Medical Center.

The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission approved preliminary site and operational plans for the Advance Outpatient Surgical Wing, to adjoin the hospital at 9555 76th St.

The approval allows for site grading to begin, along with the installation of early footings, foundations and underground utilities, this spring.

The 239,977-square-foot addition will include a lobby, lounge, café, courtyard, registration and waiting area, private preoperative suites, a minimum of eight surgical suites and recovery areas on the first floor.

The plan also calls for a lower level to accommodate support areas, a relocated receiving dock and a trash enclosure. Second, third and fourth floors of the addition will eventually house various outpatient services.

In 2001, United Hospital System submitted site and operational plans for the medical center campus on approximately 50 acres within the Prairie Ridge development.

In 2008, a multi-story expansion of the hospital building was completed. During 2010, a medical office building was added to the campus.

United Hospital System is expected to submit final site and operational plans later this spring in order to start construction this year. The project is expected to be complete during 2018.

Upon completion, the addition is expected to employ between 100 and 125, in addition to those currently working on the St. Catherine’s campus.
