A preliminary hearing for the Bradford High School student accused of stabbing a classmate to death will be held in late June, giving defense attorneys time to appeal a decision on access to evidence in the case.

Timothy Carson , 15, has been charged as an adult with second-degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon.

He is accused of killing 15-year-old freshman Dezjon Taylor, allegedly stabbing Taylor in the heart during a confrontation in a classroom on April 25.

Defense attorneys asked for access to discovery evidence from prosecutors prior to the preliminary hearing.

That request was denied by Circuit Court Judge Mary K. Wagner.

Discovery, or evidence, must be shared by prosecutors before trial, but is not required by statute to be shared before the preliminary hearing that establishes probable cause, and sharing it that early is not the practice of Kenosha County courts.

On Thursday, defense attorneys asked to adjourn the preliminary hearing scheduled in the morning to allow time to appeal that decision. Wagner granted that motion.

The preliminary hearing in the case has been rescheduled for June 23.
