St. Joseph’s Sidney Cooks continues to pour on the points.
Cooks, who surpassed former Indian Trail star Madie Kaelber as the county’s all-time leading scorer earlier this month, blistered Racine Case for 46 on Wednesday night to lead the Lancers to a convincing 78-59 nonconference victory.
The win improved the Lancers to 15-6 overall with just one regular-season game left. St. Joseph, which has won five straight, drew the No. 1 seed in the upcoming WIAA Division-4 regional. The Lancers are seeking their second straight trip to the state tournament after a runner-up finish a year ago.
Cooks, who now has 1,793 career points and counting, had nine of her 17 field goals in the first half to go with seven free throws, as the Lancers built a commanding 49-22 lead. Cooks added another 21 points in the game’s final 18 minutes.
She also finished with 19 rebounds and five blocked shots. In her last three games, Cooks has put up 30, 34 and 46 points in succession.
Niara Collins added 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals for St. Joseph, while Morgan Callahan had seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
St. Joseph closes its regular season Saturday night against visiting Greendale Martin Luther at 7:15 p.m. Martin Luther, ranked third in Division-3, is 20-1 overall and already has clinched the Metro Classic Conference title at 15-0, three games ahead of the 12-3 Lancers.
