Aug. 14

Bob Capoun picked up right where he left off at last year's Senior Men's County Open.
Capoun, the defending champion, shot a 4-under par 66 (33-33) in Wednesday's first round at Spring Valley Country Club in Salem to take a three-shot lead over Sam Picchietti (34-35).
Capoun, 52, who won the 2007 tournament by four shots with a 36-hole total of 1-under 139 (69-70), birdied Nos. 2, 4, 8, 12 and 13 and made only one bogey, on No. 6. Six-time Senior Men's County Open champion Mike Smolinski shot a 74 (40-34) and is tied for ninth with Mark Olsen.
Today's final round will start at 9:30 a.m. at Spring Valley. Capoun, Picchietti, Dave Serdar (72) and Mark Kuyawa (72) will comprise the final foursome and tee off at 11:15 a.m. Complete scores and tee times are on the Scoreboard, page C4.
