City of Kenosha receives 2025 Tree City USA recognition

Tree City USA is an annual national recognition program designed to raise awareness of the value of community trees, establish foundational standards for communities of all sizes and celebrate community improvement through effective urban forest management.

"On behalf of the Arbor Day Foundation as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Tree City USA program, I'm happy to extend my warmest congratulations to Kenosha on receiving a 2025 Tree City USA recognition. This well-deserved recognition is a testament to your community's unwavering commitment to the planting, care and celebration of trees," Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, wrote in a letter to Mayor David Bogdala. "By prioritizing tree stewardship, you've not only helped enhance Kenosha's livability, but you've also invested in a healthier, more sustainable future for your residents."

The city has earned this recognition for 44 years.

"Receiving this Tree City USA recognition is a reflection of Kenosha’s continued commitment to protecting and enhancing our community’s natural resources," Mayor Bogdala said. "We are proud to continue building a community that values environmental stewardship and takes pride in preserving these resources for generations to come."

To earn Tree City USA recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.

"This Tree City USA recognition highlights decades of investment in the trees and public spaces that make our community more beautiful, welcoming and sustainable," said Parks Director Katie Elder.
