CANYON, Texas — Parkside (3-1, 0-0 GLIAC) split a pair of matches Saturday at WTAMU Fieldhouse “The Box,” opening the day with a dominant straight-set victory over Tuskegee before falling to Oklahoma Baptist in a hard-fought five-set battle. The Rangers swept Tuskegee, 25-17, 25-8, 25-10, behind a .365 hitting percentage and six service aces. Parkside then faced Oklahoma Baptist, falling 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-17, despite recording 65 kills in a tightly contested match.
Parkside vs. Tuskegee
Parkside battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to quickly even the first set at 2-2 behind a kill from Avary Polavin and a Tuskegee attack error. The Rangers continued to stay within reach before the Golden Tigers opened a 10-6 lead. Parkside responded in a big way, using a 10-0 run to take a 16-10 advantage. Lucy Russ sparked the run with a service ace and helped set up a series of kills from Sierra Kilbourn, Emily Zaper and Monica Lukasiewicz. The Rangers maintained their efficiency throughout the remainder of the set, getting kills from Kilbourn and Alms and a service ace from Lauren Peters to build a 24-15 lead before closing out the opening frame, 25-17.

The Rangers dominated the second set, securing a decisive 25-8 victory. Kilbourn and Polavin led the charge with multiple kills, consistently finding gaps in the defense. Sierra Kilbourn contributed significantly with two key kills, helping the Rangers maintain a narrow lead at various points. However, Oklahoma Baptist capitalized on a service ace by Rylee Unruh to tie the match at 14-14, followed by another crucial point from Melody Donegan's kill to edge ahead. A final attack error by Maia Olson gave Oklahoma Baptist the deciding point, as the Rangers fell just short in a hard-fought 17-15 fifth set.
Sierra Kilbourn led the Rangers with 18 kills on 29 attempts for a .586 hitting percentage, finishing with 19 points and two blocks. Lucy Russ recorded 42 assists, along with one kill on a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage and one service ace. Avary Polavin added 17 kills and 17 points, while Natalie Harris contributed 28 digs and one service ace. Maia Olson finished with eight kills on a .316 hitting percentage, three service aces and four blocks.
The Rangers return home to DeSimone Arena on Friday, Sept. 4, when they take on Jamestown at 2 p.m. as part of the Hampton Inn Invitational.
